Piskurich (1993) suggests that SDL can be used as a type of involuntary training medium promoting the understanding of predetermined material as it relates to their job functions but doing so at their own pace. Smith (2002) affirms this theory by adding that this type of “encouragement” promotes a competitive nature among the employees ultimately fueling the motivation to learn. Brown (2000) states that SDL can also enhance the workplace through the social influences at work and an individual commitment to learning. |
